Hey! Welcome to Jeremy’s Lyrics of the Week.  The goal of this blog is to share songs that walk the elusive tightrope between well written, illuminative lyrics and cleverly arranged, impactful music. Not only do they display this ideal balance, but the two elements work to reinforce the power of one another. A great stanza cuts the deepest when it is set in music that complements it in a profoundly visceral way. Similarly, the resonance of music can be drastically amplified when the chords, riffs, and runs are spinning and diving around eloquent and poignant lyrics (read my blog to figure out which post that’s referencing!).

“Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy”

-Ludwig van Beethoven

More importantly though, I want to hear what these songs mean to you. Music, I believe, is one of the most personal mediums in existence, and if a song doesn’t speak to you on a personal level, it is, in a sense, missing the point. Music reveals truths about all aspects of life that cannot quite be ascertained in the same way from any other intellectual or artistic endeavor. So please, let me know what these songs mean to you in the post comments!

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness”

-Maya Angelou
